"Reject AIPAC": American leftists band together to oppose the pro-Israel lobbying group
Washington, DC Leading progressive organizations in the US are banding together to counter the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's (AIPAC), the nation's most potent pro-Israel lobby group, political and electoral sway.
In an effort to organize against what they described as AIPAC's drive to quell the "growing dissent in Congress" against Israel's attack on Gaza, more than 20 advocacy groups formed a formal coalition on Monday named "Reject AIPAC."
According to the newly established coalition, AIPAC is preparing a $100 million onslaught through its electoral arms, the United Democracy Project (UDP) and AIPAC PAC, to target a few progressive members of Congress who demanded a truce in Gaza early in the conflict.
“Rejecting AIPAC is a crucial step in putting voters back at the center of our democracy,” the coalition said in a statement.
The coalition represents a concerted and concentrated effort against the pro-Israel organization, even if individual politicians and organizations have previously criticized AIPAC's involvement in US election campaigns.
Mainstream left-wing organizations including the Working Families Party and Justice Democrats are part of Reject AIPAC, along with groups that support Palestinian rights like the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights Action, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) Action, and the IfNotNow Movement.
