What does Putin of Russia stand to gain from the US election?

Georgia's secretary of state, who was accompanied by a desktop computer, told reporters Thursday that a video that was making the rounds on social media and claimed to show Haitians casting ballots for Democratic Party contender Kamala Harris in the US presidential election was a fake.

The Georgia state official, Brad Raffensberger, said it was probably "a production of Russian troll farms."

Russia has once again become involved in the election as the protracted fight for the White House finally comes to an end on November 5 with Harris and former President Donald Trump engaged in a close race.

US officials have once again accused Moscow of trying to influence election outcomes, as they did in 2016 and 2020. According to a recent federal indictment, Russian state-run media allegedly sent talking points to right-wing social media influencers. Allegations that the Kremlin favors Trump in the White House are strengthened by these instances.

However, some observers contend that Moscow's calculations are more nuanced, citing the Republican nominee's first term as president as evidence, even though a Trump victory may benefit Russia.

But in contrast to his predecessor, Barack Obama, he approved deadly supplies for Ukraine, including Javelin antitank missiles, and imposed fresh sanctions on Russia.

However, President Joe Biden's administration has seen an order of magnitude rise in the supply of munitions into Ukraine, while Trump has reportedly considered lowering or even stopping help entirely—a stance that is obviously advantageous to Russia.

On the Russian street, that and Trump's pledge to immediately halt the war in Ukraine if he wins power have generated some interest.
